1880

Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815-1902) attempted unsuccessfully to exercise the vote in Tenafly. The WCTU. Under the leadership of Frances Willard, officially endorsed woman suffrage in 1880. It created a Dept. of Franchise under Zerelda Wallace and Dr. Anna Howard Shaw which encouraged state chapters to endorse suffrage and distribute suffrage literature.

1884

Suffragists Phebe Hanaford of Jersey City, Therese Walling Seabrook of Keyport, and Henry Blackwell of Massachusetts met with the New Jersey Assembly judiciary committee to press for the introduction of a woman suffrage resolution into the Assembly.
