1891

Sarah Jane Corson Downs who lived at 104 Mt. Tabor Way and who was president of the New Jersey WCTU died at the home of her daughter in East Orange after a few weeks illness. She had worked tirelessly for women in the home for temperance and equal suffrage.

1893

The New Jersey legislature raised the marital age of consent for girls from 10 years to 16 years.
